Even though Hagen uses a high quality stainless steel, I have found they can still rust a tiny amount after years of use. I have yet to have one fail due to rusting, I have never suspected any livestock losses due to metals poisoning, and the rusting that I have noticed has taken three or more years to develop, but it is still a point to consider when evaluating and purchasing.

It does take time, patience in waiting for your tank to "cycle". That is to firmly establish sturdy populations of needed bacteria. You can speed up cycling, shortening the time youll need to wait, but its important to keep in mind that there is no substitute for patience to assure your tank is ready for livestock.
