As you progress in reading about these marine system variations, you will find a definite shift in "difficulty", or better put, a narrowing tolerance to poor or varying environmental quality. Obviously all types of systems have a fluid-filled box, the aquarium, in common. Reef systems have more stringent requirements of water quality and lighting, and the smaller the reef system the more exacting the water quality concerns.

It is a fact that about ninety percent of "fish keepers" in the U.S. are really goldfish bowl, or other plastic "death-trap" aquarists. The remaining ten percent h

Actually, keeping track of powerhead cleanings is another good reason to keep a log book, since better performers models can be forgotten about and neglected too easily. It is not until you give them a thorough cleaning that one notices the difference in output. If you get stuck with a poor unit, you are going to be diving into the aquarium routinely to get the pumps working again. Pick wisely the first time around and have peace of mind so you can sit back, relax, and enjoy your display instead of cursing at it.

Why waste the water and time doing this at this point? To check to make sure the entire system doesnt leak, and that the filters are going to work as they are arranged.

Let me relate one of my notorious anecdotes to you to hammer this point. Years ago, when I was young and foolish (instead of now being middle-aged and more foolish), I helped install an eight-foot tall acrylic system in a San Diego Convention Hotel with a friend/a

Again, poor water quality will make this much worse. They do sell medication for the tank and you may be able to clear it up if you treat the tank at the first sign of trouble.

Rotting fins are sometimes seen if the fish is under stress and also if the water quality is substandard. It is a bacteria that is attacking the fins and you must treat the tank at the first sign of this problem. If possible, isolate the affected fish to another tank to prev

SE vs DE
I did a search but my searching skills suck I guess. I'm trying to figure out if DE is worth the cost over SE for a dual setup over a 75 or a 90 gallon tank, haven't decided yet, but I obviously want the most light for the least money :) DE bulbs are more expensive (seems to be), and the pendants are definitly more costly than a simple reflector and I already have a socket and reflec.
