Fish Out of Water
Although Boni Comandante Jr.’s technique is intended to ship fish used for food, the idea of putting fish to 'sleep' and then transporting them without water is an interesting one.....

Water Changes:

We still like to vacuum our gravel beds once a week. This is done after-hours with an "exploded-end" commercial vacuum fitted to a good 3/4 inch hose to waste. Refilling of tanks is accomplished through an auto-fill fitted into the freshwater sumps and new saltwater mix made up in the marine sumps.

Water is returned to the separate aquaria via centrifugal pumping and plastic pipe and valves. Additionally we use air driven under-gravel filtration and aerators in many of our aquaria for b

I certainly learned that you do not have to follow "the bigger the better maxim" in setting up a reef. Neither do you have to use a sump or have tons of sophisticated expensive equipment. Whatever works for your budget and the well being of the animals you want to keep is enough."

Biological filtration is a must. Unless you have an "open" system with continuous flow through of "new" clean seawater, you will be re-circulating your "closed" systems aquatic medium along with livestock wastes and uneaten food. These materials are toxic to your fishes and invertebrates unless expediently converted to less noxious materials and/or filtered out. This is the realm of biological filtration for most of us; circulating system water through a matrix/substrate housing beneficial nutrient-cycling bacteria.

The simplest of these bio-filters are air-dri

2) Practically speaking there is no "too large" overflow line size or number of overflows themselves. If you think 1" diameter through puts will do, go with 1 1/4" or even 1 1/2". Think you can get by with one overflow line of large/r diameter? Use at least two overflows... trust me here... as one is very likely, make that VERY likely to fail, get clogged, blocked by any number of circumstances, events. Systems of more than a hundred or so gallons should have at least three overflow lines... Ive seen very big tanks with numerous overflow lines

Id say a dark room, no flash, and a wide aperture. Try using different camera speeds if you have a manual setting on your camera.

phosphates too high
hello again- Well my 90 gallon predator/reef tank has been up in running for about 7 months. Everything is running smoothly so far- water parameters are nitrate > 20 ppm, nitrite 0ppm, ammonia 0 ppm, pH 8.2, salinity 1.025, but phosphates are way to high it's about 5 ppm. For the past two weeks....
