Anyone use Quiet One 3000 or SEDRA 7000 submersible pumps?
Howdy, Anyone have any user feedback on these pumps? Reliable? Noisy? I'm looking for a potential replacement for a finicky and LOUD MAG7. This is for a Remora Pro by the way. Thanks!.

Corals Need More Than a Lot of Light
Contrary to popular belief, a vast majority of corals are not autotrophic, requiring only light to survive. Autotrophs produce their own food from inorganic material they extract from their surrounding....

This is more important in saltwater tanks, where the high density of the water greatly reduces the amount of available oxygen.

The size of the nitrifying bacteria population in the biological filter determines how much toxic ammonia (fish waste) can be processed. If there are too many fish in an established aquarium, tests for ammonia or nitrite will be positive. The beneficial bacteria pop

The water at the bottom of the filter is fresh and high in dissolved oxygen, so aerobic bacteria cultivate in the bottom half of the sand bed, and remove ammonia and nitrite, using up oxygen in the process. In taller fluidized-bed filters, enough aerobic bacteria cultivate in the bottom half so that as water flows past them, they remove most of the oxygen from the water, so facultative anaerobic bacteria cultivate in the top half of the sand bed where they remove nitrates. Not all fluidized-bed filters are tall enough to promote anaerobic denitrifying ba

As Ive written before Cleanliness is not sterility. Cleaning, vacuuming, bleaching ornaments too much, too soon disrupts/destroys needed bacterial cultures. Dont be too fastidious about cleaning all your system at once; you want good, strong beneficial microbe populations living in and on the "hard" surfaces in your system.

Heaters come in sealed submersible or not formats. Get and use the former only. If you need one of two-hundred or more watts, get two of two thirds or so of that wattage each and place them in separate ends of the system, not in a sump. Place the heaters low in the tank (but not undergravel) to facilitate heat diffusion, and prevent you from breaking them. Most heaters are accidentally broken by removing or replacing them when theyre too darn hot! The should be set in the tank water for fifteen minutes plus before plugging in, and unplu

The scientific method for determining the exact number of fish involves using calculations that take the oxygen carrying-capacity factor into consideration, providing a total "biomass" or weight of all the fish that can safely be kept in one tank. This weight measurement is called the "carrying capacity."

In some public aquariums, fish farms, and aquaculture facilities, a sampling of fish are actually weighed before they are introduced to a system to prevent over-crowded conditions. It is impossible to do this for the average home aquarium.
