It is especially unfair to these fish, who eventually join the ranks of millions that have died needlessly, their bodies decomposing in our dumps and landfills, when just a few short weeks or months before, they had been thriving in the ocean. Are we trying to make you feel bad? No! We are simply trying to open your eyes to one of the darker sides of the hobby we all enjoy.

.. But oh no, I listened to "Stank" and yes, the system did leak, and yes, we drained the tank, removed the gravel by buckets, and the filter plates to get to the split gasket on that through-hull. Did I mention the thousand gallons of synthetic seawater we threw away?

Some of these units are plain garbage, not "pulling down" anywhere near what their manufacturers claim, leaking, failing, going to fish-heaven in less than a year. There are reputable people in the trade, and a few more units on their way, thank goodness, that will hopefully oust the charlatans.

Placement of chillers is critical; they should be where you can reach them for cleaning and checking, but also positioned for thorough ventilation and no water contact/splashing.

There are many hundreds of beautiful and fascinating species that will not only survive, but will thrive in aquaria, often longer than they would in the wild, due to a lack of predation and parasites. There is simply no reason to trade in, or display, species that do not have a good record of survival in aquariums.

Daphnia For The Aquarium

Daphnia are a great food source for both young and adult aquarium fish, you could catch them with a net in a pond, but their's a risk of bringing in parasites. I just found an article about growing daphnia yourself, nice read for the real tinkers out there :-)

mixing clowns?
If this has been discussed before please direct me to the thread! I have a false clown in my tank and I want to get another one but my lfs only has true percs "thats what he called them" they are small just like mine but will the co-inhabit? or is that just a bad idea? and what really is the difference between the two?.
