Tanks:

There are two general varieties, plastic (acrylic) and glass (with silicon rubber seams. Some important considerations: They are heavy when set-up and filled; about ten pounds per gallon! Therefore it is important that aquariums be placed on something substantially strong. Another factor is that this "stand" be flat and planar. This prefilter design greatly reduces the chances of the siphon action breaking, either from collected air or when the filter pump stops.

Wet-Dry Filters: Wet-dry filters are typically rectangular acrylic or glass reservoirs that sit below the aquarium. Most are divided into two basic sections, the "wet-dry" chamber and the "sump." Some wet-dry filter models may also have additional sections or chambers for in-sump protein skimmers, de-nitrification systems, canister filters or for pre-filtration of the water.

For this article, I want to focus on the less expensive wavemaker devices- the ones that most anyone in this hobby could afford. Besides that, these units are the ones that I have had the most experience with. It is not that I am cheap mind you. I will pay good money for something that is well built and useful or necessary, but I dont like to squander money, either!

After your fish is in the fishbowl, feed it right away. However, be sure to not feed it too much. Usually, just a pinch of fish food will be sufficient for your goldfish. Fish bowls will usually need to be cleaned about once every week or so.
