Black Neon Tetra
Few things are as eye-catching as a large school of shimmering tetras. If you already have a school of Neon or Rummy Nose Tetras, consider adding Black Neons....

phosphates too high
hello again- Well my 90 gallon predator/reef tank has been up in running for about 7 months. Everything is running smoothly so far- water parameters are nitrate > 20 ppm, nitrite 0ppm, ammonia 0 ppm, pH 8.2, salinity 1.025, but phosphates are way to high it's about 5 ppm. For the past two weeks...

They work the same way as a fluorescent tube but the surface area of the tube has been increased slightly and more phosphors added. They require more electricity than regular fluorescents but the payoff is huge! They produce nearly four times the light-output per watt than regular fluorescents and in our experience, degrade slower and last longer. They come close to the output of metal halide bulbs with relatively-precise color temperature production, though metal halide bulbs produce a far bro

A basic plenum may be created by suspending egg crate material or under gravel filter plates above the aquarium bottom, using inert supports such as PVC pipe. If egg crate is used, it is covered with nylon screening over which the deep gravel bed is placed. The actual materials, including what grade of gravel or sand is used, vary depending on what literature you read, but usually coarse live sand, fine coral gravel, or a combination of both are used. One technique is to use 2" of live sand on the bottom,

.. use Silicone). There are a myriad of options to choose amongst, doing with solvent density, color... and possibly the use of a primer. I strongly encourage (along with good, square cuts and new/er, clean pipe and fittings) the use of "landscape" PVC solvent... like the green viscous kind/s or best "Christys Red Hot Blue Glue"... which works well even in wet, dirty (under tank) environments.

I am forever telling folks to "work from the fixed end" in doing plumbing work... after carefully measuring, cutting, laying out the parts and cut pipe, to thread, solvent all from the most fixed point (like a wall or a pump or a tank...) on out. Use pap

Continue this process until BOTH tests read zero. Then add no more than 50% of the inches of fish you already have in the tank (if you already have four inches of fish, only buy two inches more). Do a 25% water change before you add new fish, not immediately after. Do not add fish to the tank more frequently than every two to three weeks. Stock the tank to 90% of the total capacity. Then allow the growth of the fish you have to fill the aquarium to capacity.

There are exceptions to the three inches/square foot of surface area rule for saltwater. An eel is long, but is also skinny, so using of its body length as a measure is safe. A large angelfish is

Saltwater:

Saltwater has far less dissolved oxygen than freshwater. The rule we use for saltwater is three inches of fish for every square foot of surface area. For example, a 55-Gallon aquarium (48" Long by 13" Wide) has approximately four square feet of surface area, so approximately twelve inches of fish can be kept in a 55-gallon aquarium. In saltwater, look for quality, not quantity! If you have a wet-dry filter or Berlin reservoir, you can technically count the s
